The Book of Skulls

Skulls are one of the most overused symbols of around today. Once seen as sacred religious and spiritual symbols,  they stumbled into pop culture's mainstream and have long since been an icon for anarchy.

From Dia De Los Muertos sugar skulls,The Misfits and The Grateful Dead's logos and the skull emblems adorning the catwalks of Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen to Damien Hirst's infamous "For The Love of God" diamond-laden masterpiece, the contemporary visual culture landscape would be a far less interesting place were it not for the humble skull.

The Book of Skulls by Faye Dowling celebrates the Skull in all it's glory, featuring an array of skull-inspired pieces in the fields of fashion, music, street art and graphic design. Including work by Shepard Fairey, James Joyce, Alastair Mackie, KAWS and Mike Giant, this little book is chock full of all kinds of weird and wonderful works of Skull art.

Nicholas Kirkwood x Keith Haring.

This collaboration isn’t new, but it is definitely too good not to feature – It had us Tantrum girls drooling! Back in May, one of our favourite shoe designers, Nicholas Kirkwood teamed up with The Keith Haring Foundation, showcasing a rather bold range of shoes, inspired by 80s street culture.

Sculptural footwear has become an innovative trend, and we absolutely love the designs. Patterns and motifs were taken from Haring’s work and applied to an array of architectural styles. Pop-Art prints promoted subjects including AIDS activism and awareness as well as safe sex; a pair of knee-high boots emblazoned Swarovski crystals and rollerblade wheels – 
unfortunately these beauties were only for display.

We love the relationships between fashion and art; it is so inspirational and fun. The one-off couture collection is available at the Nicholas Kirkwood store on Mount Street, London.

Kate Moss by Mario Testino

Reigning queen of the supermodel scene, Kate Moss is obviously no stranger to photographs. We've all seen the career-making Corinne Day snapshots, Calvin Klein adverts and Vogue covers that this beauty has graced, as well as the headline-grabbing paparazzi shots documenting her falls from grace.

But never before have we been allowed an insight into the days in the life of Kate. The product of two decades of friendship, 'Kate Moss by Mario Testino', offers a glimpse into intimate, behind-the-scenes imagery, showcasing the pioneer of heroin chic in a way we've never seen before.

Many of the 100+ photographs in this book are unreleased images from Testino's private archives, and the book also features a foreword by Mario Testino and an essay by his greatest muse, Kate Moss herself. A rare and unconventional glimpse into the rise of an undoubted fashion icon, 'Kate Moss by Mario Testino' deserves a place on the bookshelves and coffee tables of everyone who's at all interested in the worlds of fashion, art and culture.
